Session 1: Pre-Qualifier Drive

Before we go deep, we ensure you’re ready. This initial session isn’t just a warm-up—it’s a full-fledged assessment of your driving fundamentals under real desert conditions. After a detailed briefing, you’ll lead the group right from the entry point, supported by experienced marshals. You will learn:

Experience driving with no lead car ahead
Real-time feedback on your route choices and control
Evaluation of your ability to handle terrain, flow, and focus simultaneously

This session helps us confirm you have the vehicle control, presence of mind, and situational awareness required for the next stages. Only those who meet the safety and performance threshold proceed—because leadership must be built on a solid foundation.

Session 2: Navigation Essentials

This session dives into the heart of desert navigation. You’ll train to build directional awareness and master techniques that allow you to move through the dunes with purpose and precision—even when the terrain offers no hints. You will learn:

Spatial awareness and route planning under dynamic conditions
Use of maps, GPS tools, waypoints, and visual terrain cues
Point-to-point navigation for efficient, flowing drives
Anticipating changes in direction and terrain for better decision-making

This is where you begin to think like a marshal—constantly adjusting, recalibrating, and choosing the best possible path for those behind you.

Session 3: Lead Skills & Terrain Reading

Now that you’ve learned to navigate, it’s time to lead. This session focuses on terrain strategy and leadership driving. You’ll not only read the land—you’ll command it. You will learn:

Identifying safe tracks, optimal climbs, and efficient crossings
Reading dune formations to predict what lies beyond each crest
Mastering techniques to enter, exit, and transition through complex dunes
Decision-making under pressure with a convoy following your lead

This session builds your confidence to lead a team through unpredictable environments—balancing risk, flow, and the safety of those behind you.

By the end of the Lead & Navigation Program, you will have the foundational knowledge to safely guide a small convoy through the desert. You’ll understand how a lead car plans, communicates, and adapts during a drive. More importantly, you’ll have the confidence to navigate where no road exists—and lead others there with skill.

This has been one of the best learning experiences. Marshall Ghassan is extremely knowledgeable,pateint and enthusiastic to share his expertise of navigating and driving as lead. This is also a perfect opportunity to become more aware of desert terrain, and challenging yourself. For sure you will complete this program with a sense of achievement and a passion to continue learning. Throughout these sessions safety is foremost and the learning environment is excellent in that you are encouraged all the way, every decision is a learning experience.
Thank you for an incredible program I never ever imagined before that I would be good enough to even attempt. If you have a sense of adventure and exploration this is the perfect opportunity.

This has been a great experience
The teacher was professional and knew how to spot strengths and weaknesses so you make progress and aren’t getting bored
I feel much more confident entering the desert and having a sense of how to pick up and maintain driving flow
Really happy and feel I have a better foundation to build on
